STEREOTYPES: How Native People May View Non-Native People (Part 1)
Here are some common stereotypes some Native People have toward Non-natives (this is not universal, but a sampling of some commonly held Native perspectives)
Some Natives hold these perspectives about some Non-Natives:
1. Non-natives think that they are superior to everyone else.
2. Non-natives force their values / opinions on Indians.
3. Non-natives are prejudiced towards Natives.
4. Non-natives are aggressive and sometimes over-bearing.
5. Non-natives are insensitive.
6. Non-natives are two-faced.
7. Non-natives are materialistic, greedy and fixated on making money.

Larry Salway grew up on the Rosebud Reservation in southwestern South Dakota. He rose out of the poverty of his childhood and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and later, a professor at the Oglala Lakota College campuses in Kyle and Rapid City, SD. He served for five years as Tribal Judge in Pine Ridge, SD. Mr. Salway has also served as pastor of churches in Arizona and South Dakota. Larry is Co-President of Life Initiatives.
