For 500 years, the hope-filled message of life in Jesus Christ has not taken root in the culture of Native America. Part of the reason is that white culture has presented Christ in the dressings of the White culture, instead of the purity of Christ above ALL cultures.
Dr. Jerry Yellow Hawk, in what will become a classic presentation, tells the story of his trek from being a "white" Christian pastor to becoming a Christian pastor who also maintains his identity as a Lakota person. This is an excellent first step in understanding how to present Christ within the Lakota culture.
Dr. Jerry Yellow Hawk is a Lakota elder, and before his retirement, served as the District Superintendent of the Native American District of the Wesleyan Church. He has been an active leader in the translation of the Bible into the Lakota language.
